LinkedIn seems like a pretty weak platform. About the only thing it has going for it is that it is seen as the “professional” social network, but doesn’t actually offer any unique features that make it more valuable than any other social networks.
I also question using LinkedIn groups to establish yourself as an “expert”. Unless the pool of individuals is incredibly small, or you are in fact a world leader in your subject area, I find it hard to believe that you will be able to distinguish yourself from LinkedIn’s 200 million users (according to an official LinkedIn blog post on Jan 9 2013).
